TV: Forrest Whitaker Coming to Epix as Bumpy Johnson

Epix’s has a new 10-episode crime series, “Godfather of Harlem,” starring Forest Whitaker as crime boss Bumpy Johnson. The series is inspired by Bumpy Johnson who returned to Harlem in the 60s after doing 10 years to find the neighborhood he once ran taken over by the Italian mob. Bumpy Johnson has to go up against the Genovese crime family to get back control. The series goes into Bumpy Johnson’s unlikely “friendship,” with Malcolm X. The cast includes Nigel Thatch as Malcom X, Vincent D’Onofrio (Law and Order: Criminal Intent) as Vincent ‘The Chin’ Gigante, Giancarlo Esposito as Adam Clayton Powell Jr., and Ilfenesh Hadera as Mayme Johnson. Swizz Beats is the music supervisor. There is a combination of music from the period and original music featuring John Legend, Rick Ross and DMX.
