This video is REALLY hard to watch. Jamar Woody beats the brakes off his 3 month pregnant girlfriend while she on crutches with a broken ankle:

This “male”, I can’t call him a man, brutally attacking his girlfriend, Shatory Irving, when she was three months pregnant. The attack occurred June 8, 2016, in a busy southwest Roanoke VA convenience store. Jurors watched surveillance footage from the store which captured Woody sucker punching Irving in the head and kicking her once she’d fallen to the ground. A cashier came to her defense and ordered Woody to leave the scene.

Doctors testified that Irving, 26, suffered a inch-long cut to her forehead that exposed part of her skull. But last fall she delivered her child, who, despite arriving prematurely, is reportedly in good health.

Irving phoned the cops after the attack but said that she did not know who attacked her before hanging up.

And incredibly, she acted as Woody’s only character witness for the defense! She refused to identify herself in a video, she said she did not suffer any permanent injuries and asked that he not be sent to prison….she needs some serious counseling.

She told jurors that in 2014, Woody had taken out a protective order against her, which she violated, and she described breaking windows at Woody’s grandmother’s house after a disagreement.

“You have to understand, it is a volatile, toxic relationship,” defense attorney Melvin Hill said.

Irving said as much herself when she took the stand as the sole defense witness. She acknowledged Woody had taken out a protective order against her in 2014, which she said she was later arrested for violating. She admitted that sometime after that, she’d broken windows at Woody’s grandmother’s house because he wouldn’t call her back.

“Everybody’s looking at him like he’s the bad guy, like I’m so innocent,” Irving said. “I do have a temper.”

Citing recent drug and alcohol addictions, she also declined to answer most of the prosecution’s questions.

“Your memory appears to be a lot better regarding older incidents,” noted prosecutor John McNeil, who then asked Irving if she was trying to keep Woody out of jail with her testimony.

“Correct,” she replied, then explained why she answered that accusation truthfully: “I’m under oath.” WOW…some people you just can’t help.

She however, denied she’d been left with a scar and claimed to not to recognize herself in the video footage or in forensic photographs taken after the attack.

At Monday’s sentencing, Hill cited Woody’s past diagnoses of mental illness and called witnesses who claimed that the problems began brewing long ago.

“I could tell, throughout the years, that he’d been having mental issues,” said his sister, Jasma Woody. “I’ve watched this for the past 19 years of my life.”

She recalled phoning the police more than a decade ago, when she said she was concerned her brother might hurt himself. When police arrived, she said, they took him into custody and also arrested her on an outstanding warrant.

Dana Woody, his mother, said that despite her son’s long criminal history, he has not gotten proper therapeutic treatment while incarcerated.

“My son goes in and when he comes home, he’s even sicker,” she told Clemens, adding that in January, a few days after he was found guilty, he attempted suicide in jail. She said Monday that she fears he will try again.

Clemens said he would make psychiatric treatment for Woody

Thank goodness the judge didn’t listen to her. Jamar Bernard Woody was sentenced Monday in Roanoke Circuit Court as he begged a judge not to force him to “watch my sons grow up through pictures.”

“This is my breaking point,” he declared, appearing  to hyperventilate his voice rising as he seemed to gasp for breath. “I’m not fit to take this right now.”

But an eight-year prison term recommended by a jury two years above the maximum within the sentencing guidelines in Woody’s case  will stand.

“I don’t find that to be unreasonable,” Judge Chris Clemens told him. And I don’t either! I wonder if his new prison buddies will give him a good taste of his own medicine while he’s locked up. Let him see how it feels……
