Lezley McSpadden Talks Importance Of The “Rainbow Of Mothers”

August 9th, 2015 will mark the one-year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown. The world has since had to watch the parents of Mike Brown grieve publicity over the death of their son. Now Brown’s mother, Lezley McSpadden is using what she has learned during her time of bereavement to help other mothers who have experienced similar tragedies.

McSpadden founded the Michael O.D. Brown Foundation (michaelodbrown.org)to help mothers who have lost a child to violence. This Friday the foundation will host their signature program RAINBOW of MOTHERS. Whether from excessive police force, street or domestic violence, illness, or unforeseen tragic circumstance, Rainbow of Mothers will provide a support system of hope that includes wrap-around resources and services including but not limited to counseling, group sessions, legal advice and helpful information to assist in the restorative process of rebuilding and repurposing life after loss.

Key funding implementations also include a support fund for mothers who have also sustained lost wages in the face of tragedy along with other much needed health-related funded resources.
McSpadden talks about the upcoming “Rainbow of Mothers” gala, which will spotlight 100 mothers in the St. Louis area who has dealt with the tragic loss of a child. We also get a glimpse of how this program and talking to others is helping her heal as well.
