UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:

People need to be reminded of important events that shape their identities and actions. What kind of event can make such an influence on their lives? Jesus’ resurrection provided tangible evidence of the possibility of resurrection for those whose identities are formed by Christ Jesus.

CONCLUDING REFLECTION:

Paul wrote at the beginning of his letter to the Corinthians that Christ is the power and wisdom of God. Living on the basis of this power and wisdom is to live with resurrection faith. The Christian life, according to Paul, is life lived in the reign of God inaugurated with the death and resurrection of Christ. Because Christ is fully alive, we can participate in God’s new order of turning to love and faith, different from that of empires and nations of the world which understand power in economic, military, and political terms.

We can live with faith rather than fear, unity rather than division, choose love rather than hate, and live with hope rather than despair.

PRAYER:

O Lord, You have made eternal life possible for us. We need Your power and wisdom in a world burdened by extremism of hate, violent disregard for others, and excessive competition for profit and gain. Help us to know Your love and rise above all that threatens us in such conditions. Give us the confidence of Christ in our every endeavor to stand up for love and compassion as children of God. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

WORD POWER:

“Resurrection” – literally means to “stand up” or “stand up again”’ theologically, “to stand up in new life” is the meaning of the word resurrection.
