Our History Makers: Rosa Parks (thumbnail)

Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was born in Tuskegee, Alabama on this day in 1913. Parks has been referred to as the “Mother of Freedom Movement” and ” First Lady of  Civil Rights Movement.” Her refusal to give up her seat to a white passenger on a public Montgomery bus was the start of the city-wide boycott thus calling for an end to segregation of public facilities.

Parks died in Detroit at the age of 92 on October 24, 2005.
