UNIFYING LESSON PRINCIPLE:
Sometimes people are asked to do incredibly difficult things with only promises of reward to motivate them. How much are some people willing to endure and risk in exchange for promises? In their old age, Abram and Sarai risked everything to move their family and all their possessions to a new land, because of their faith in God’s promises.
CONCLUDING REFLECTION:The calling of God upon our lives normally means that we will need to make uncomfortable choices if we are to be found faithful to God and God’s call. God’s call is not determined by our social situations; such as age, gender, socio-economic status, or education. Rather, God’s call is determined by His timing and desired ends. Persons such as Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Marva Collins exhibited the call of God on their lives so that human flourishing could come to a multitude of African Americans. They are examples of those who did their part so that the “great thing” could come to many. It takes one willing vessel to open the door of blessings for a multitude of God’s people.
